Bantwal, Feb 15: This a right example that no more the so called ‘weaker sections’ of the society are ready to sit up quiet and go through the humiliations and injustice meted on them by the 'elite' of the society. For centuries the rich and the wealthy have literally amassed wealth and built castles by trampling over the poor. But now the time and trends are changing. It is heartening to see that even the weaker sections of the society are asserting their rights.
One such example was reported from Manila in Punacha village near Vittal here on Monday February 13 night. A labourer, who was paid less wages for his work, taught a lesson or two to his employer by setting fire to the cowshed, which was under construction.
Bijila alias Anand (30) of Puttur was working in the construction of cowshed for Abdul Kunji of Manila for sometime now. However, the latter never paid the exact wages to Bijila. Frustrated and enraged by this, Bijila set fire to the cowshed, which he had built on Monday night. As a result, the entire cowshed was reduced to ashes. In addition to this 10 sacks full of betel nut, spray pump, chickens and wood stored in the cowshed was also gutted.
The total loss has been estimated at Rs 2 lac. The Vittal police have arrested Bijila on Tuesday and have produced him before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
Law may assert that Bijila was wrong in damaging the cowshed. But the same law will never speak about the injustice done by Abdul Kunji by not paying proper wages. So Bijila has perhaps taught a good lesson to Abdul Kunji and sent a warning signal to the entire employers fraternity.
