Mangalore, Jul 17: Re-Chal Samaja Seva Samsthe(R) Thokkottu,Mangalore, Dakshina Kannada Zella ‘D’ Varga Sarkare Nowkara Sanga(R),Dakshina Kannada Zella Shakehay, Mangalore and St Sebastian High School and PU.College, Permannur ,Thokkottu ,Ullala jointly organized a free plants distribution and awareness programme on July 13 at 11 am in St Sebastian PU College Auditorium.
The programme began with a prayer led by the students of the St Sebastian high school after which the guests were welcomed to the dais.
Nirma Dsouza, director of Re-chal NGO gave a short introduction about the programme. Frankey Franklin Cutinha, President of Dakshina Kannada Zella ‘D’ Varga Sarkare Nowkara Sanga welcomed the gathering.
Korgappa Nayak, president of Dakshina Kannada Zella Panchayath, Mangalore presided over the programme. Fr J B Saldanha, correspondent of St Sebastian High School and PU college, and the parish priest of St Sebastian Church,Permannur.
Fr Edwin Mascarenhas, principal of St Sebastian High School and PU College, Permannur, N Shina Shetty,omgudsman, Mahatma Gandhi Rastriya Udyoga Kathare Yogane, Dakshina Kannada Zella Panchayath ,Mangalore. Ramesh Kirodiyan, correspondent of Vanmostva Samethe, Dakshina Kannada Zella ‘D’ Varga Sarkare Nowkara Sanga, Cyril Robert D’Souza, member Re-chal NGO and Dakshina Kannada Zella ‘D’ Varga Sarkare Nowkara Sanga, Nirma DSouza, director of Re-chal NGO, Frankey Franklin Cutinha, president of Dakshina Kannada Zella ‘D’ Varga Sarkare Nowkara Sanga were the guests of honor for the programme.
The programe was inaugurated by planting a plant by all the dignitaries on the dais. FrJ B Saldana emphasized on the importance of water and caring for the nature. N.Shina Shetty also dwelt on the importance of the tress and the how government has been supporting the plantation of the plants with different schemes at various levels. Fr Edwin Mascarenhas appealed to the people gathered to be more sensitive to nature by planting more greenery around and taking care of the same.
The chief guest of the programme Korgappa Nayak, in his presidential address spoke about the usefulness of the plants as medicine promoting the wellbeing of the people. Nature purifies us and controls pollution. He also urged people to cultivate by using natural manure and natural sources.
Cyril Robert D’Souza delivered the vote of thanks. And Delson was the master of the ceremony.
Around 3000 students actively participated in this programme. Free plants and seedlings were distributed to all the people by the dignitaries.
