M'lore: Kalyana Mantaps must avoid discrimination– DySP Yashoda

Kundapur, Jul 16: "These days several cases of caste discrimination are reported in Kalyana Mantaps, against which strict actions will be taken. In this regard, Kalyana Mantap and hall owners should be alert," said Kundapur DySP Yashoda S Vantagodi.

She addressed the meeting at Kundapur Rakteshwari temple hall on Monday July 15 evening where Kalyan Mantap owners of the taluk had participated.

Circle inspector Manjunath Kavari said "guidelines should be given to every Kalyan Mantap in the taluk so that people of all castes are treated equally’. At any cost, law will not bear the discrimination made on the grounds of caste and other factors."

At the meeting, Kalyan Mantap owners and police officials from Asamabailu, Byndoor, Shakaranarayana, Kundapur, Kollur station limits were present.

Jayaram D Gowda, assistant sub inspector of Kundapur welcomed and also proposed the vote of thanks.

    It is a good decision.Kalyana Mantapa owners should also give freedom to consider for allotment of Kalyana mantap subject to the compliance of code of conduct by the allottes.
    i.e., Many Kalynana Mantap owners do not allow to allow alcohol parties in the venue or allow cooking and serving of non veg food there,no gay dancing at odd hours creating nuisense to the near by residents etc.,
    That freedom should be given to them.Cast descrimination not at all tolerable.There are owners of some kalyna mantaps who offer concession on reant based on economic conditions of the party and if the programme is for social cause charge nothing except minimum maintenance cost.
