Punjab to regularise 5,000 illegal colonies


Chandigarh, Jul 7 (IANS): The Punjab government will soon regularise over 5,000 illegal colonies across the state, an official said here Sunday.

"Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal has issued instructions to local government and urban development department to launch a sustained campaign to get the illegal colonies regularised as per the latest comprehensive policy cleared by the council of ministers," a government spokesperson said.

Badal, according to the spokesperson, has also directed the authorities to create awareness among the residents on the ways to get their structures regularised. The deputy chief minister wants them to adopt a pro-active approach in this regard, he said.
