Goa to fund rebuilding of two Uttarakhand villages


Panaji, Jun 25 (IANS): The Goa government will raise Rs.15 crore to Rs.20 crore towards relief and rebuilding of two flood-affected villages in Uttarakhand, Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said Monday.

Talking to reporters here, the chief minister said the Goa government would help re-build hospitals, schools and homes damaged in the floods, which have claimed hundreds of lives and left several thousand people stranded.

"As announced earlier, the Goa government will donate Rs.15 crore to Rs.20 crore to the Uttarakhand government. Plus we will also raise Rs.15 to Rs.20 crore and spend the money rebuilding schools, hospitals and homes in the two villages we will adopt," Parrikar said.

The chief minister also said that the names of the two villages will be announced later.
