Udupi, Jun 16: A lineman was killed when a private express bus hit his bike on NH 66 at Kaup-Polipu here on Saturday June 15 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sulaiman (55), who resided behind Quality hotel in Kaup. He was a lineman with Innanje unit of Mescom.

Sulaiman had just started from his home near Quality hotel and moved on to the highway towards Kaup, when a speeding private bus plying from Udupi to Mangalore rammed into him.

The bus driver who lost control after hitting the bike moved over the divider too. If any other vehicle had been at the spot, another tragedy would have occured.

Sulaiman is survived by his wife, four sons and a daughter. While the sons are pursuing education, the daughter got betrothed recently.

Kaup inspector Archana K, crime SI Rajendra Naik and other policemen arrived at the spot.

A case has been registered in Kaup police station.

I feel very sorry for the family of Suleiman may god give them enough strength to overcome the grief. I wish to recall the incident in which four gentlemen of Udupi, including a corporator from Udupi thrashed one of the driver for his rackless driving which posed danger to their life. There was a big hue and cry from all Daiji readers that goondisum from BJP /BD etc.. The drivers of private bus gone on lighting strike putting all commutors students and rest passengers who are earning their daily breads by travelling to their office /work sites. Entire police and administration of twin district came to console striking drivers/conductors. The neglegence, arrogance, rowdisum, rude behaviour of these private bus emplyees can not be questioned neither by any department (RTO/POLICE/Administration/elected representatives)nor by the general public. The elected representatives (MLA/Ministers) worried about their vote bank, Responsible govt. authorities are in their payroll (Pvt. Bus owners association). How the interest of public / passengers of Udupi Managlore sector can be safe guarded? How many people using small vehicles killed by these drivers till date? If the driver found guilty what punishment he gets? Their union, lawyers, owners money protects them. The case becomes so weak no eye witness, the techincal report by experts (bribed) proves mechanical failure. The dependents after shuttling from pillar to post, in couple of years after the accident loose their fight to convict these killers. In between the agent lawyers will woo them for compromise. This kind of situation will prevail in our twin district who are proud to say highly educated /intelectual and peace loving public of the state.

everyday so many lives are lost on mangalore /udupi roads and authorities are blind to take any action.in udupi people drive while talking on mobile and cops do nothing.i think our udupi SP need to be transfered anda able officer has to be put.near udupi bus stand drivers use air horns where a police chowki is situated and cops do nothing.looks like udupi cops are scared of the drivers/bus owners.why no speed governors are put on these buses till now.RTO is fully corrupt beyond any ones doubts.
