Bangalore, May 28: Pre-monsoon rains claimed three lives late night on Sunday, and three more on Monday. Out of them, three died due to lightning.
On Sunday night, two motor bike riders died in an accident which occurred in Davangere district. They had failed to notice that a tree had fallen across the road due to heavy wind and rain which lashed the district earlier that day.
The incident had occurred on Anaji-Mallikatte Road in Davangere taluk. Rudresh, vice president of Anaji gram panchayat, who was riding the motor bike, and Siddalingappa, who was riding the pillion, suffered grave injuries after their motor bike hit the tree that had fallen across the road at great speed. While Rudresh died on the spot, Siddalingappa breathed his last in a hospital later.
Putrappa (50), a farmer from Devagondahalli in Hoovinahadagali taluk in Bellary district was electrocuted on Sunday when working in his farm. Yallappa Shankrappa Bagalada (32) from Doddur in Lakshmeshwar, Gadag district, was struck by lightning when was trying to close the window doors in the first floor of his home. Mahadevi (40) from Chikkapadasalagi village in Jamakhandi taluk became a victim of lightning when making preparations to sow peanuts at her field. Erappa Mamadapur (14) from Aigalli Cross in Athani taluk lost his life after the roof of his home, which was blown away due to storm, felon his head.
In addition to coastal districts, Dharwad, Hassan, Sirsi, Gangavati, Davangere, Hosdurg, and Shimoga, have received good pre-monsoon rains coupled with thunder and lightning.
