Mangalore, Jan 2: If Mangalore will get an international swimming pool and a cricket stadium then it will be mainly because of Union Minister for Statistics and Programme Implementation Oscar Fernandes.

The minister who was speaking at a meeting with officials at the deputy commissioner's office on Sunday with regard to the various sports development projects of the district said that the Indian Sports Authority (ISA) officials will soon be in City to discuss with the district administration on construction of the pool and stadium. Further discussion will also be held on organising three national sports meets in Mangalore

MLC Blasius M D'Souza, deputy commissioner (DC) H V Parshwanath, SP B Dayananda, headquarters assistant to DC A G Bhat, Mangalore City Corporation commissioner K Chandrappa, chief executive engineer Suresh Babu and Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry former president Subbaiah Shetty were present.

Fernandes assures jetty for coastal fishermen: Earlier, the minister who inaugurated the boat race organised by the Mogaveera Vyavasthapaka Mandali of DK and Udupi district as part of the Kadala Parba at Chitrapur here on Sunday assured support towards the construction of a jetty for the coastal fishermen at Mangalore.
