Kundapur, May 25: In what may be termed as a display of mob fury, locals here tied up a man said to be mentally ill after he allegedly tried to molest a girl and then pushed her in front of a moving bike, which resulted in her sustaining serious injuries.
The incident occured near Shastri circle on NH 66 here on Friday May 24 evening.
A man, said to be mentally ill, allegedly tried to molest a girl who was standing beside the road. The frightened girl resisted him and began shouting for help. The man, sensing danger, pushed the girl away on to the road.
A bike that was passing by at that moment hit the girl, causing serious injuries. She was rushed to a hospital.
.
Infuriated by the man's action, the locals caught hold of him and tied him up against an electric pole and thrashed him black and blue.
The police on receiving information about the incident rushed to the spot, rescued the man and took him away to the police station.
In another incident, the driver of a long route goods lorry, allegedly drunk, drove his vehicle recklessly and hit a pedestrian. The lorry was stopped by the locals at Shastri circle.
