Udupi: Konkani telefilm 'Angelina' released, gets rousing response at premiere

Udupi, May 20: The most awaited Konkani Telefilm ‘Angelina’ was released and its premiere show held on Sunday May 19, at SMS Makkala Mantapa in association with AJ production and St Mary’s Syrian Orthodox Youth Association.
Newly-elected MLA of Udupi, Pramod Madhwaraj released the telefilm.
Kasargod Chinna, president Karnataka state Konkani Sahithya Academy, Fr Lawrence D’Souza, vicar general St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian Church, Fr Valerian Mendonca, chancellor Udupi diocese, Fr Naveen Menezes, assistant parish priest Mount Rosary Church Kallianpur, Rathna Kumar, secretary of Shree Sode Vadiraja Math Education Trust, Udupi, Veronica Cornelio, president Udupi district women’s Congress, Alwyn Lobo, vice president St Mary’s Orthodox Syrian youth Association, Snehal Mathias, female lead of the telefilm, and Adel D’Souza, Jeevan Lazarus, and Joseph Rebello, producers of the telefilm were present on the dais.
"To work in film industry one should have a strong mind, faith and dedication. Keeping this in mind three youngsters came up with the telefilm 'Angelina'. May they succeed in their aim and mission and come up with more stories on social awareness for the society," said MLA Pramod Madhwaraj.
“After working for more than 25 years in the film industry I got success with recognition of the movie ‘Uzwaad’ at the international level as best regional movie award and this is the first time in the history of Konkani film,” said Kasargod Chinna.
"I will make sure that telefilm ‘Angelina’ will get an entry into the national film festival which will be held in August," he assured.
He lauded the music director Dolwin Kolalgiri and said he is proud to have a talented person like him in the Konkani speaking community. He promised to give all support from the Konkani Academy in his future endeavours.
Rathna Kumar, secretary of Shree Sode Vadiraja Math Education Trust, Udupi said, “In this large gathering of Christians, I feel a little out of place being a non-Christen but still I know the community from my school days. The quality of education which they give cannot be compared with others and I have personally experienced this,” said
“I know Joseph personally because he is one of the members of Sode Education Trust Udupi. Even though the three (producers) are not financially affluent they came up with this project with an aim and mission. I wish them all the best and hope that they have a business of crores,” he said.
Fr Lawrence D’Souza inaugurated the function by unveiling the curtain. Veronica Cornelio gave mementos to all the artistes of the team, while Fr Naveen Menezes presented mementos to the music team.
Rathna Kumar gave the mementos to technical, non-technical and support crew. Fr Valerian Mendonca honoured Jeevan Lazarus, Adel D’Souza, and Joseph Rebello with bouquets. M Dolwin Kolalgiri was felicitated on the occasion by Fr Valerian Mendonca.
Joseph M Rebello, coordinator and art director gave a brief intro about AJ production and telefilm Angelina.
Prior to the stage function, a live musical show was arranged. Singers of the telefilm sang songs from Angelina to entertain the audience. Prajoth D’sa, Vinay Lewis, Dolwin Kolalgiri, Arun Danthy and Shiny Rodrigues sang all the numbers of the telefilm.
Joel Dance Academy, Santhekatte, Kallianpur danced on two numbes from the telefilm.
Melba Teena Lewis welcomed the gathering. Jeevan Lazarus proposed the vote of thanks on behalf of AJ productions. Alwyn Lobo thanked everyone on behalf of the organizers.
Arun Danthi compered the musical show and Leslie Aroza Thottam compered the formal stage function.
The first premier show was arranged on the big screen at Makkala Mantapa. It was the houseful show with hundreds of people thronging the venue.

The story of 'Angelina' revolves around a girl who is brought up by her father following the death of her mother. He gives her the best of education and shapes her into an independent woman who even rides a bullet. At the same time, there is pressure on her from society to get married. The telefilm, in short, dwells on the plight of an ordinary girl and how she deals with the various situations.
