Russian tourists outnumber Britons in Goa

Panaji, Mar 19 (IANS): Russian tourists continued to outnumber British tourists in Goa last year, which received 450,530 foreign tourists, the tourism ministry said Tuesday.

In a written reply to the Goa assembly, Tourism Minister Dilip Parulekar said while 140,100 Russians arrived in Goa in 2012, Britons numbered 119,891.

Third on the list were Germans (31,842), Finns (23,787) and French (19,907), Parulekar said.

Till February this year, 131,000 foreign tourists arrived in Goa out of which Russians topped the list at 20,064.

Goa annually receives half a million foreign tourists from October to March, when the winter is at its harshest in Europe.

Traditionally, Britons used to top the Goa list but Russian tourists have been outnumbering them for the last three years.
