Karkala, Feb 28: Shastreeya Sangeetha Sabha organised the 'Tataaka Sangeet Mahotsav 2013' on Saturday February 23 at 'Sheshateertha' lake premises of Padutirupati Venkataramana Temple Karkala.
The programme venue was specially lit with a huge number of Mudlamps (Diyas or Panati's).
The music festival was inaugurated at 6 pm by K Jayarama Prabhu, managing trustee of Karkala Sri Venkatramana temple, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik and Dr T Narayana Nayak, USA.
The president of the Sabha S Nityananada Pai welcomed the gathering. Secretary Dr Prakash Shenoy proposed the vote of thanks.
Three top class concerts enthralled the audience from 6.30 pm to 1 am in the night which were-
Tarun Bhattacharya, Kolkata-Santoor Recital (Bharatharathna Pandit Ravishankar Memorial Concert)
Vittala Ramamurthy, Chennai and Vidushi Charumathi Raghuraman, Chennai-Carnatic Violin Jugalbandhi (Late Dr M S Gopalakrishnan Memorial Concert)
Jayathirth Mevundi, Hubli-Hindustani Vocal ( Bharatharathna Pt Bhimsen Joshi Memorial Concert)
The accompanying artistes were Abhijit Bannerjee, Kolkata and Keshav Joshi, Bangalore on the tabla; Narendra L Nayak, Mangalore on the harmonium while Anantha R Krishnan, Chennai was on the Mridangam and Chandrasekhare Sharma, Chennai played the Ghatam.
