Puttur, Feb 27: Puttur town police raided an illicit liquor center and arrested five persons. They were allegedly involved in preparing liquor in a cashew yard and seized materials worth Rs 25,000 used to extract liquor using cashew fruit.
The raid took place in Padpu of Kodpadi village. Police have arrested Venkappa Nayak, Krishnappa, Jayaram Poojary, Janardhan, and Robert who belong to Padpu while the main accused Ananda Poojary fled.
Ananda Poojary had leased the Padpu government cashew yard and the other accused were working for him.
Following a tip off that the accused were preparing illicit liquor and selling it, Puttur town police team under the leadership of inspector Sudharshan and sub inspector Subbanna organized a raid and arrested five persons and seized 45 liters of illicit liquor as well as the equipment used to prepare it.
The case has been registered in Puttur town police station.
