Udupi, Jan 6: The Girls Islamic Organization in association with women's wing of Jamath-e-Islami Hind held a massive rally here on Saturday January 5 to condemn the recent gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl in Delhi and to demand quick action and better security for women.

The rally wound through Jodukatte, Diana circle, service bus stand, Bannanje and culminated at SP's office where a protest meeting was staged.

Well-known writer Tara Bhat, GIO Udupi district convener Mariam Assadi and GIO state secretary Khamrunnisa addressed the protestors.

Jamath-e-Islami Hind district convener Samina Shukur, co-convener Jameela Hoode, and state advisory committee member Kulsum Aboobakker were present.

The memorandum urged the authorities to take steps to curb spreading of obscenity through print and electronic media and action against corrupt practices in the censor board. It also sought ban on night shifts for working women especially in corporate sector and call centres, action against those who propagate obscenity through posters in public posters, steps to ensure safety of women, probe into the recent cases of crimes against women in the coastal districts and strict punishment to culprits, and separate buses for women.

    Zahoor Ahmed Karkal
    Salam Alai kum.
    "Learn something from GIO."
    Wah! Kya bath hai!
You are too late.It is time for me to preach the younger generation out of my experience.
Had my father covered me from head to toe and dumped me within four walls, I would have been a waste on earth and wouldn't have been what I am today.
Better late than never. I am happy that the GIO's have taken courage to walk down the streets raising their voice demanding better security of women. This is the stepping stone, gradually the cover will vanish and they will learn to walk on the streets like modern ladies to build a greater India.
Had they done this earlier by now women would have had a better place.
In places where uniforms dress codes are prescribed, colleges or work place, if girls enter exposed with miniskirts or bikinies, sure they will be pushed out. so will be the fate of the men who enter with half pant or no pant.
Seats reserved for women on bus and separate ladies compartments on train are provided on humanitarian grounds and to meet the demands of the organizations that protested earlier.
God created woman as a companion to man ,to walk beside him, love, share and care. They should learn to respect each other . Neither man is superior to woman, nor the woman is inferior to man. They both are equal.
Change your attitude towards women. Treat them as your equal. Respect their views. give them their freedom.Allow them to walk raising their heads. You will find heaven on earth.

Dear daughters of india untill and unless this govt. doesnt changes the law rape murder will continue as b4. U may conduct any number of rallys any number of protest nothing will happen. It will b a total waste. Wastage of ur time and energy. Instead better to make the rally for changing the laws. It makes the sense. B4 also many rallys took place. Can anyone tell me anything progress happened? I am sure nothing will happen. Dear daughters of india instead of wasting ur time in attending such rallys try to join karate classes. Or whenever u come out of the house you have to carry aspraybottle full of chilly powder. If u come across any eve teaser rapist spray to his eys then thrash him with your sandals. He will never never come near to any lady. By conducting rallys nothing will happen.

MS.Juliet and theresa you don't want separate bus but you want seats reserved for women on bus, you don't want separate trains but you need ladies compartments......what kind of equality you want ? So called modern girls wear exposed and miniskirts what you want men wear half pant in duty hours or in Colleges ? Please donot talk about equality becaus God created men and women differently, both are different in their nature. Learn something from GIO.

Un-presidented move by Girls Islamic Organization. We need to teach our children to live modestly. We are inviting trouble by accepting alien culture. Should we stick to our culture safety is bound to come.

Well said Juliet. Every women need safety and they need not get scared to move freely in the Soceity. Whether day time or Night time. Government take strict action/punish in public in case of rape/murder immediately not to prolong the case.

The Indian women need safety to move freely in an Independent India irrespective of their job, during night shift or day shift. If safety is provided why do we need a separate bus? Are we not fighting for equality? Do we require a separate class room or office room!!!
