Bangalore, Dec 27: Despite the threat held out by former chief minister B S Yeddyurpapa, who is now heading his own regional outfit Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) to torment the ruling BJP in Karnataka, to pull down the Jagadish Shettar regime and prevent the chief minister from presenting the annual budget for the year 2013-14, BJP National General Secretary Ananth Kumar declared that ''nobody can prevent the Chief Minister from performing his duty.”
''He (Shettar) will definitely present the annual budget for the year 2013-14, the last budgetary exercise by the BJP dispensation in Karnataka before the 2013 assembly polls and nobody can prevent that, come what may,” said Kumar while addressing a conclave of ruling party ministers, legislators, corporators and prominent party workers at the Bangalore Palace Grounds on Thursday.
The BJP national general secretary asserted that the BJP Government would complete its full term.
''Nobody need have any doubts on the BJP Government’s longevity or the presentation of the annual budget by the chief minister,” he claimed.
Indirectly referring to the public threats held out by Yeddyurappa to decide the question of withdrawing support to the Jagadish Shettar regime by convening a meeting of his supporters, including ministers and legislators in the city on January 4, Kumar said: ''We are least worried by Yeddyurappa’s threats or deadlines.”
''We know these deadlines are nothing but gimmicks to hog media limelight and headlines,” he said.
He pointed out that Yeddyurappa had set a deadline for bringing down the government while JD(S) supremo H D Deve Gowda had stated that his party would extend its support if the principal Opposition Congress moved a no-confidence motion.
“We will defeat the no-confidence motion even if Gowda supports it and present the state budget,” he said.
''Similarly we will overcome the deadline tactics (of Yeddyurapa),” Kumar said, while remarking that “Yeddyurappa’s deadlines on toppling the government are only aimed at hogging news headlines.”
The BJP national General Secretary contended that, “If Gowda supports the no-confidence motion moved by the Congress, it will establish that there is a formal poll understanding between the Congress and the JD(S).”
The budget to be presented by Shettar will have big plans for the development of Bangalore city apart from similar plans for the welfare of farmers, agricultural labourers and downtrodden, he said.
Accusing the Congress of indulging in a proxy war with BJP through Yeddyurappa’s KJP, he said the BJP would win this war.
Kumar, who was part of the party’s delegation from the State, which attended the swearing-in ceremony of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, called upon his party government to adopt ''Modi’s model of development.”
He said Modi was impressed with the services of the Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and told the State leaders that he would be visiting Bangalore to see its functioning.
Kumar threatened to launch an agitation if the Centre continued to sit over the resolution adopted by both the Houses of the state legislature on naming the Bangalore International Airport at Devanahalli after Bangalore founder Kempe Gowda.
''Kempe Gowda is the founder of Bangalore and we want to honour his memory by naming the BIAL after him,” the BJP leader said.
