Bangalore, Dec 18 (DHNS): Two persons fell to their death from under-construction buildings in the City in the last two days.
Unais, 30, was killed after he fell into a pit dug for an escalator at an under-construction building in Ramakrishna Layout, Jnanabharathi.
Unais a store manager at a footwear store in Kalasipalya, was staying along with his six friends in a rented room on the third floor of the building.
The building belongs to Mahadevaiah where minor work is being carried out. On Sunday, following a drinking binge, Unais and his friends had dispersed to their rooms.
However, on Monday, they failed to locate Unais andlaunched a search only to discover his body lying in the pit. Jnanabharatahi Police have registered a case against Mahadevaiah, the building owner for negligence.
In a similar incident, Bannamma, 35, a worker at an under-construction apartment in Talakaveri Layout near HAL old Airport, fell to her death from the fifth floor, Monday morning.
Bannamma, who hailed from Mailapura Hosahalli village in Shahapura taluk of Yadgir district, had migrated to the City along with her family three years ago. She, her husband Gangappa and their five children, were living in the makeshift shed at the building site.
According to Gangappa, he was informed of his wife’s fall from the terrace of the building where she had been to work. The couple were working in adjacent buildings on the same site.
Sabanna, a relative and eyewitness to the accident, said they were engaged in the curing on the fifth floor of the building watering the recently plastered walls.
Banamma, who stumbled on a water pipe, screamed as she toppled over the small parapet wall, falling to her death, even before they could reach her.
HAL police, who shifted the body to Bowring Hospital, handed it over to the family following an autopsy.
The police said they have registered a case of negligence under Section 304A of the IPC against Padmaiah, owner of the building and Sambashiva Rao, the site engineer. Fortune Constructions Pvt Ltd is involved in building apartments at the site.
