Mangalore, Dec 17: In what was termed by the locals as an attempt to disrupt peace, a group of miscreants on Monday December 17 pelted stones and bottles at three mosques in the taluk.
Karnad Juma Masjid near Mulky, Kulai Badriya Masjid and Mukka Juma Masjid were attacked by the miscreants in the early hours of Monday, at around 1.30 am.
The miscreants pelted stones and damaged the window panes on the first floor of the Karnad mosque. Luckily, no injuries were reported as the mosque was empty at the time of the attack.
It is said that Karnad mosque has been attacked twice earlier, but the culprits have not been caught.
Mulky circle inspector Basheer Ahmed rushed to the spot with his team and began spot investigation.
It is learnt that evidence has been found to confirm that stones were brought in a gunny sack and thrown at the mosque from the road.
Mulky town panchayat member Puttubava arrived at the spot and demanded immediate arrest of the culprits.
Similarly, Juma Masjid in Mukka and Badriya Masjid and Kulai also were damaged.
It is suspected that the same people planned and carried out all the three attacks.
District president of Congress minority unit Moidin Bava visited the mosques. Terming the incidents as an attempt to disrupt harmony in the vicinity, he urged the police to bring the culprits to book at the earliest.
