Mangalore: Sri Gokarnanatha College Hosts State-level Wrestling Competition

Mangalore, Dec 1: The state-level wrestling competition was inaugurated here at Sri Gokarnanatha College here on Saturday December 1.
The two-day wrestling competition which is held from December 1 to 2 is organized by Dakshina Kannada District Pre University Board along with Sri Gokarnatheshwar College.
B Devdas, president of Shree Venkatesh Shivabhakthi Yoga Sangha, Gandhinagar inaugurated the competition by lighting the lamp along with other dignitaries. N Yogish Bhat, deputy speaker presided over the programme.
Amitha Kala, deputy mayor, Vasanth karandoor, secretary of Shree Venkatesh Shivabhakthi Yoga Sangha, Dr B G Suvarna, member of managing committee, Dr B Gangadhar, principal, Kshama N Rao, principal of PU College, K R Thimmayya, deputy director of DK PU board, Sandeep S Rao, physical director shared the dais.
Speaking on the occasion, Yogish Bhat condoled the sad demise of former Prime Minister I K Gujral. Bhat appreciated the 25 teams participating from various districts across the state. Sports help in overall development of an individual, he added.
“Wrestling is a traditional game which was witnessed when the champions Bhima-Balaram used to wrestle, said Bhat. In order to attain success in wrestling, both physical and mental power is needed”, he said.
He urged the students to actively participate in extracurricular activities along with studies and lauded the organizers of the competition.
On the occasion, Yogish Bhat honoured Prem Ucchan for bagging gold medal in the Asian Wrestling Championship.
As many as 221 students including 64 female participants, from across 25 districts will take part in the competition.
