Mangalore: Rajay Pawar Wins Mathias Family Poetry Award by Kavita Trust

Mangalore, Nov 29: Rajay Pawar, a young poet from Goa has been chosen for this year's Mathias Family Poetry Award by Kavita Trust.
The award carries Rs 10,000 in cash, a memento and a citation, which will be given on January 13, 2013 during Kavita Fest, at Thumbay near Bantwal.
Kavita Trust which works for the promotion of Konkani poetry, has instituted this award in the family's name of Joseph Mathias, managing director, Merit Freight Systems LLC, Dubai.
The award has been won by Aruna Rao Kundaje, Mumbai (2008), Kavyadas, Mangalore (2009), Kashinath Shamba Lolienkar, Goa (2010) and Shivananda Shenoy, Kerala (2011) on earlier occasions.
Rajay Pawar is the first person to do a doctoral study on Konkani poetry. He was awarded the PhD by the University of Goa, for his thesis ‘Goan Society in Konkani Poetry' in May 2012.
He has submitted a minor research project titled ‘the Poetry of R V Pandit : A Critical Study’ for UGC, New Delhi. His poems are included in the academic syllabi of Goa Board and Goa University.
His poetry collection 'Pavsfullam' was published in the year 1995, which won for him the literary award from Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa in 1996. His poems are included in 'Samakaalin Bharatiya Sahitya', 'Konkani Poetry of 20th Century', 'Bharatiy Kavita in Punjabi' and other compilations.
He has been instrumental in popularising the Ghazal form of poetry in Konkani in Goa, through his literary organization 'Rangvedi'.
