Mangalore: Multi-lingual 'Gaanalahari' Carol Singing Contest from Nov 30

Mangalore, Nov 27: As part of Christmas celebrations, 'Christa Jayanthi Gaanalahari', a carol singing competition in Konkani, English and Kannada languages will be held at St Vincent Ferrer Church Grounds, Valencia from November 30 to December 2, said Anil Lobo, president of Catholic Sabha, Valencia.
The carol singing competition will be organized by Catholic Sabha, Valencia parish unit in collaboration with Karnataka Christian Education Society (KACES).
Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday November 27, Anil Lobo said that all necessary preparations for the competition have been done, and already 60 groups from Mangalore, Udupi and Kasargod district have registered their names.
The English carol singing competition will be held on November 30, Kannada carol singing on December 1 and Konkani carol singing on December 2.
Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza will inaugurate the competition on November 30 in the presence of chief guests N Rajendra Kumar, chairman of SCDCC Bank and Manohar Prasad, chief of news bureau, Udayavani.
On December 1, the inaugural ceremony of Kannada carol singing competition will be presided over by bishop Lawrence Mukkuzhy of Beltangady diocese. Deputy commissioner Dr Channappa Gowda, KPCC secretary Ivan D'Souza and Fourwinds director Elias Fernandes will be the chief guests.
The inaugural ceremony of the Konkani carol singing competition on December 2 will be presided over by Dr C L Furtado, former bishop, CSI, Karnataka Souther Diocese, in the presence of chief guests J R Lobo, former MCC commissioner, Louis J Pinto, former president of Mandd Sobhann and Nigel Pereira, president of Catholic Sabha.
Justice B V Pinto, judge of Karnataka high court will preside over the valedictory ceremony to be held Valencia Church grounds on December 2 at 8 pm. NRI entrepreneur Elias Sanctis and Western Institute of Technology director Stephen Mendes will be the chief guests.
The winners of the competition will get Rs 15,000 as first prize, Rs 10,000 as second prize, and Rs 7,000 as third prize. There will be three consolation prizes each of Rs 4,000, he said.
There will be entertainment programmes on all the three days - Ocean Kids on November 30, Vismaya Vinayak on December 1, and Memory Mangalore on December 2.
Fr Bonaventure Nazareth, director of Catholic Sabha, Dr Honey Cabral, principal of KTC and secretary of KACES, Dolphy Saldanha among others were present at the press meet.
