Udupi, Oct 9: “Farming and related activities have undergone a huge change, compared to earlier days. People are losing interest in farming due to various reasons. Hence, there is a need to introduce modernisation in farming in order to support the farmers so that they can depend agriculture,” said Kota Srinivas Poojary.
He was speaking after inaugurating the 'Krishi Mela – 2012', organized by different associations in the Krishi Samshodana Kendra and Krishi Vijnana Kendra in Brahmavar on Monday. “The youth have to accept changes in farming and go through it as their life,” he added.
“Every person has to depend on earths soil to get his food, even if there are a lot of scientific developments. Life goes on just as the saying goes, 'the one who goes far from his home soil, has to return to their own soil', people will return to the field of agriculture,” Poojary affirmed.
The loan stabilization facility for the farmers of the drought-borne areas will soon be spread out to all taluks of the state. The government has approved for a loan of Rs 25,000 and has also released Rs 3502 crore for loan stabilization.
“To support dairy farming, the government has been issuing a supporting fund of Rs 2/litre, and until now, the total amount funded stands to be around Rs 1169 crore,” he assured.
