Dubai, Sep 28 : In a scintillating contest that saw some of the voices of UAE vie for a spot in the finals of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore - 3', Sabitha Mathias of Udupi emerged victorious among the women contestants and Jeevan Vas of Ujire among the men. The two beat their fellow contestants in the semi-final round held here on Friday Septmeber 28 at the Gems School, Dubai.
Unlike in the other Gulf countries, in UAE each of the semi-final contestant was offered two songs, a slow and a fast one. Three judges chose the winners after some top-class performances from the singers. Competition was tougher in the female category as all of them gave extraordinary performances for both slow and fast numbers.

The event started at 6 pm with a prayer song by Mangalore Konkans group followed by Gulf Voice of Mangalore theme song.
Alwyn Pinto, a well-known artiste and senior member of Mangalore Konkans gave a brief introduction on the contest and welcomed everyone.
Roshan D'Silva, one of the best comperes around UAE with plenty of experience in conducting such shows, was the master of ceremony.
Dr Prashant Raj from Mangalore, Nephie Rod Pradhan from Mumbai and Rony D'Cunha from Kuwait were in the panel of judges.
Laila, Crecilla, Sabitha, Nisha, Asha and Thelma were the female singers, and Alwyn, Prashant, Robin, Anil, Preeth and Jeevan were male semi-finalists.
Soon after the competition in both slow and fast categories in male and female sections, president of Mangalore Konkans addressed the gathering and expressed his gratitude to sponsors of the event, Raju Fernandes, SPPE , Specialized Power Products, UAE, media partner Daijiworld and all those who worked for the event. He made special mention of Lawrence Pinto and Louis Rodrigues of Kuwait who are the founders of this show.
After the break, top class entertainment was presented for an hour non-stop by the visiting artistes who were also the judges. Nephie, Dr Prashant and Rony rendered some popular numbers like 'Korun Kanthara' 'Char Disancho Sansar', 'Hav Tuzo Mog Kartha', 'Mog Tuzo' and so on
At the end, the much-awaited result was announced by compere Roshan. James Mendonca and Aboline D'Cunha along with the judges were present on the stage while felicitating the winners. A huge round of applause and cheer burst out among the audience as soon as the results were declared.
Now the winners will contest for the coveted 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' title at Doha on October 19, 2012.

Bahrain, Sep 23: It was Tina D souza who walked away with award for the female category for her scintillating performance with the song ‘Ahimsa’ composed my Melvyn Peris.
Sydney Correa’s super performance with ‘ chandrak pavoytalom’ the famous track of Melvyn Peris fetched him the top spot and award in the male category.
