Peaceful Bandh in DK District, No Agitations, Fights Reported

Mangalore, Sep 20: The protest across the district was conducted in a peaceful manner on Thursday September 20. There were no fights or untoward incidents reported until noon.

However, people found it very diffcult to travel around especially due to the public transport participation in the bandh. Most of the stores and restaurants also remained shut for the day to avoid trouble. As petrol bunks remained closed, fuel shortage causes another hindrance for vehicles.
The festive preparation for Ganapathi procession also came a standstill as proper arrangements could not be made. The procession will be held in the evening of September 20. Devotees from the outskirts of the city are in a fix as they cannot travel.
People who have travelled to their native places for the feast and had expected to return today are also in trouble as bus services have stopped.

Mangalore, Sep 20: The nationwide bandh on Thursday September 20 called by the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and other opposition parties against the recent hike in diesel and allowance of FDI received good response in the city.
All schools and colleges were declared holiday well in advance.
Commercial vehicles like private buses, KSRTC, and auto rickshaws are off the road. However, a source informed that KSRTC operated for some time in the morning.
Some people were loitering around the city as they could hardly find any transport. Those who arrived by trains were stranded in the railway station.
Police are on high alert to prevent any untoward incident.
All shops and offices chose to remain shut and only essential commodities like milk and ambulance services are available.
The city as whole wears a deserted look.
As per the announcement made earlier, NDA and other parties are holding a protest in front of the DC's office at 10 am.
