Mangalore: Police Nab Seven for Robbing at Temples

Mangalore, Sep 17: "The police nabbed seven thieves in connection with several incidents of robbery in temples. The thieves disguised themselves as devotees and looted valuables from people in various temples," informed Abhishek Goyal, superintendent of police, at a press meet here on Monday, September 17.
The arrested are Srinivas (32), Maulana Saab (35), Suresh Soma Reddy (28), Lakkava (45), Sharadha (24), Thippavva (35) and Kamala Parvathi (65) of Gadag district.
"PSI Yogish Kumar and other police personnel of Beltangady were deputed on vehicle patrolling in the area of Kanyadi, Dharmasthala. On suspicion, the police inspected a Tavera car (KA-22-3339). All of a sudden, the passengers (three men, four women and three children) tried to escape from car. However, the police with the help of locals caught them.
During interrogation, it was learnt that the seven persons looted valuables and cash from devotees in various temples in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.
The police confiscated four mobile phones, a gold chain, Rs 3,200 in cash and Tavera car.
In addition, the thieves admitted that they sold some of the jewellery in their district. The police have recovered 65 gram of gold, the SP said.
