Mangalore, Aug 25: The inaugural program related to the long awaited mathematics exhibition began with a short prayer service at the Lourdes Central School recently.
During this event, Lipika Prabhu of class X warmly welcomed the gathering and gave an introduction of the chief guest Fr Antony Prakash Monteiro, PhD incharge of Philonagar Educational Institutions of Puttur.
The lamp is known as the traditional symbol for the commencement of an event. The dignitaries Fr Victor Machado, manager, LCS, principal Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves and the chief guest lit the lamp along with maths coordinator Roshini Jose and maths teacher Shalini Tauro.
While the lamp stood lit, Lucy Pinto, maths teacher briefed the audience about the inaugural experiment and the model was unfolded before the gathering. The model was a cube and when it was opened, out came six square based pyramids. Lucy Pinto explained that the volume of a cube is six times that of the square based pyramid whose height is half the side of the cube.
The chief guest addressed the Lourdite crowd. He spoke about astrophysics, algebra and symmetry. He concluded by saying that Mathematics is the birthplace of all the branches of sciences .
Aditi De’Souza of class X delivered the vote of thanks.
