Mangalore, Aug 25: "Quest of man for information has led to the growth of library; it is the heart of University education” opined Dr Kaisar M Khan, associate professor of Library and Information Science, Mangalore University, after inaugurating the "Librarian Day" at the Besant Women’s college here recently. “Library is a service oriented profession, thus a librarian gives personal assistance to a reader to locate information” he said.
He spoke about the libraries in India and the world libraries. He gave an insight about Prof S R Ranganathan, the father of library science, his life, career and his contributions to Indian libraries. He also gave a brief history of the library and library Acts (Madras Library Act, Public Library Bill 1965) in India during that time.
Dr Manjula K T, principal, Karthyayini and Lokraj the librarians , the students and staff of the college were present during the occasion. As a part of the observation of the Librarian day, an exhibition was organized by the College library. Various journals, scholarly books and encyclopedia were kept for the exhibitions.
