Mumbai, Aug 22: The Mogaveera community leader Dr G Shankar along with Oscar Fernandes, the Member of Parliament led a high powered Mumbai Mogaveera’s delegation to the honourable chief minister Prithviraj Chavan.
The delegation presented a memorandum emphasizing and impressing the chief minister, the need and necessity to recognize and classify the Mogaveera’s under the ‘Other Backward Class’ category in the state of Maharashtra.
The delegation which met the chief minister on Sunday August 19, received a patient hearing. The chief minister assured the delegation that he would give necessary directions to the concerned ministry to put over the matter on a ‘fast track’ and expedite the process.
The delegation informed the chief minister that even though under the initative of Mogaveera Vyavasthapaka Mandali, along with other three major Mogaveera organizations in Mumbai, that is, the Mogaveera Yuvaka Sangha, the Mogaveera Mahajana Seva Sangha-Bagwadi-Hobali and the Dakshina Kannada Mogaveera Mahajana Sangha, had submitted the application for classifying the Mogaveera community under the ‘Other Backward Class’ in the state of Maharashtra during the month of March 2010, but nothing great has happened as the OBC committee having its office in Pune under the Social Justice and Special Assistance Ministry, Mantralaya does not meet regularly.
Other members of the delegation accompanying Oscar Fernandes and Dr G Shankar were Sadanand Kotian and Purushotham Shriyan (president and vice president – Mogaveera Yuvaka Sagha), Suresh Kanchan, Gopal Puthran, Nanu Chandan (all from the Mogaveera Mahajana Seva Sangha-Bagwadi –Hobali), B K Prakash (trustee), Sanjeeva K Salian (vice president), Purushotham Karkera (joint treasurer) all from the Mogaveera Vyavasthapaka Mandali and Tippanna.
