Mangalore, Aug 4: Auto rickshaw driver Monthu Lobo, known for his selfless service and social work, was presented the 'Sarathi No 1' award from the Indian Vehicles Drivers Trade Union recently.
He was adjudged the best driver of the year on World Drivers Day held at Sri Puttana Chetty Town Hall in Bangalore.
76-year-old Monthu, from Valencia parish, is a hardworking auto driver, and has been rendering his services to the city for more than 50 years.
More importantly, he is known for his work towards the upliftment of the needy. His work includes providing water taps to areas which are in need of it, water taps to schools, hospitals, computers to schools, uniforms to needy school children, sandals, clothes and even eatables to orphanages and needy children in Mangalore and even other far off places.
