Mangalore, Jul 15: "Many research books in universities suffer without bringing any new dimension to the fore due to limited scope in study. This factor applies to all the universities in Karnataka," lamented Dr Madhava Peraje, lecturer, Hampi University. He was speaking after releasing the book titled 'Umbali' authored by Devu Hanehalli at Ravindra Kala Bhavan, University College, on Saturday July 14.

Referring to the book 'Umbali', he said that though this is not a research book, the content in this book goes beyond the academically disciplined usual issues and turns out to be intellectually rich which induces thinking among readers, and is hence worth calling a research book.

Dr Peraje regretted that universities are not serving the purpose of being knowledge centers and those who take up research work will not cross the academic boundary and a thesis will be confined to academic purposes.

Dr A Narayana, columnist in 'Udayavani', another guest on the occasion, said that the author of the book exhibits pious anger in the book against the fact that truth has not reached while it had to.

Author of the book, Devu Hanehalli said that feelings of hatred against wrongdoing are as much important as love in life. However, he said that hate should not occur without reason.

Vidya Dinker, presiding over the programme, lamented that it is a sad factor that much of the education these days is taking away people from one's own roots.

Earlier, 'Tulu Paddhana' and 'Kunda Kannada Natti Hadu' were sung by Koragu, Bagi, Bagi Puthrala of Yethadka, Kasargod, and Parvathi Bhai, Girija Bhai, Rukmini Bhai, Radhu Poojarthi of Kenjur, Kokkarne, Udupi. They were felicitated on the occasion.

The programme was organized by principal and Kannada Sangha, University College, Mangalore, Ananthaprakasha, Kinnigoli. Vishnumurthi Prabhu, English lecturer, Government College, Udupi, compeered the programme.
