Mangalore, Jul 7: “Due to a few selfish and greedy politicians of today, the sanctity and purity of the legislative assembly and democracy has been lost,” said Siddaramaiah, leader of the opposition in the state legislative assembly.
He addressed the political science students of St Agnes College at the valedictory ceremony of a day-long seminar on ‘Sixty Years of Karnataka Legislative Assembly’ held on its premises.
Stating his own expenditure in his first election, he said that in the past the political leaders had to spend less on elections as they were recognized as public servants. “However, today the quality of politicians is not the same,” he lamented.
“Earlier, political leaders were inspired and influenced by the life of freedom fighters, however, it is missing in the present era. The government which is supposed to be responsible and responsive is not faithful to its duty, therefore, the gap between the poor and rich is increasing day by day,” added Siddaramaiah.
Congress leaders Vinay Kumar Sorake, Ivan D’Souza, and Suresh Ballal were present on the dais.
Principal Dr Sr M Prem D’Souza and vice principal M Supriya too shared the dais.
