Mangalore: Speeding Bus Kills Pedestrian

Mangalore, Jun 18: In a tragic accident, a pedestrian was killed on the spot when speeding bus rammed into him near hotel Roopa, Hampankatta here on Monday June 18.

The identity of the deceased is yet to be ascertained. He was around 26 years old.

The accident occured when a private bus plying from State Bank hit him while over taking another bus.

The body has been shifted to Wenlock.

Traffic police (east) are investigating.

    Though mangalore is known to have a very good transport by bus but it is equally well known for the rough driving by the bus drivers which have claimed several lives. The only way of avoiding these accidents is to introduce severe punishment for these drivers who show heroism while driving. Hope the mangalore authorities wake up before its too late.

    Most of our roads lack {a}foot paths {b}no separate bay for stoppage of buses.Also people do not have practice of walking on footpaths if there are. These are the main issues cityfathers should give attention to. Why blame bus drivers. In the present case, the bus driver was on his road only not on a footpath.

    Installing speed breakers nor putting speed limiting devices wont do anything. first the drivers of buses and autos should be taught the basics of driving

    There should be a bravery award given to the people who are not travelling in buses. these buses will overtake, stop, horn , slow down as per their wish..most of them doesnt have a working bake light... really afraid of riding a car or bike on nethravathi bridge.i request the concerned authorities to take action against these law breakers.. I agree with ahmed . they are KILLING MACHINES.

    Just the other day I had posted my comments on the subject of Parking on the roads resulting in accidents.. it was a detailed posting but due to a compu glitch got truncated. For a change the gist the commencements today suggest thrashing of the Bus Driver / damagin the bus .. I fully support this action from the public .. if burning of buses for no rhyme or reason is done during Bundhs and strikes .. the public should go ahead and give vent to their feelings by burning the bus and bludgeon the driver to an extent not amounting to his death as it will be a murder case / besides the half baked illiterate bloke needs to suffer for the pain and perennial agony he has caused to the victims family. Having said that .. PRIVATE BUSES SHOULD STOP PLYING if not at least the owners of the buses / the drive should be jailed .. only tough laws will ensure a Mangalore that has some normalcy .. things are going from bad to worse under the present Governmental apparatus ... the DC has gone into sleep Mode .. hopefully never to wake up - like the dead

    Sorry Guys,as long as money is the law in Mangalore,a speed breaker or speed governor will not make a damn difference. I am sure all of you have seen MCC garbage trucks carrying trash almost to the top of truck without covering. Plus garbage men are sitting on top of the garbage when the law says otherwise. Just 2 weeks back a huge sack of rotted vegetable fell from a garbage truck near Silva gate and a biker almost got killed. His luck or almighty blessing biker missed it by one minute. I have been trying since last 6 months to get the MCC officials to get these trucks covered. Even traffic police do not stop when requested because it is MCC vehicle. It is like beating the dead horse. I spoke to ex health officer,present health officer,envirolment department officers,Health dept. staff and RTO(rotten transport officer). Please look at the condition of these trucks. How did they pass the inspection? What more can be done. Next step is Mayor and then Lokayuktha office.

    "Its another killing not an accident" Mangalore has always been unfriendly to pedestrians, thanks to the reckless bus drivers. Mangalore citi corporation if investigates into the no of killings done by these bloody bus drivers it will only reveal one thing that people walking on the road are always walking with a threat of some bus driver running over them and will also reveal carelessness of MCC to still allow these rogues to operate inside the city. At least now wake up MCC give the right of transportation to KSRTC and save the lives of people.

    Wake up Mangalore City Administration / Traffic Police!! There are too many deaths happening recently, road traffic accident or otherwise. It's high time you take some radical and quick actions.
    This is another tragic incident contributing to the notoriety of Mangalore!!
    ...Earlier Daijiworld always used to be the first portal to report about incidents happening in and around Mangalore, but now other portals are doing a quicker job. Any idea why?

    We are a waiting for like a Ajay Devgan's "SINGHAM" Police officer for City control.Who will not come undercontrol or pressure of the Ministers or higher Officers and Rich peoples.This is best Solution for this like incident or accident.Some police officers doing good job but they all under pressure higher officers.Bcose higher officers undercontroled by Dadagiri ministers & Bus owners.Better to bring Great officer a Mr GangiReddy to Mangalore Trafic Control & Replace the DC for Developing Mangalore City...Bharath Matha

    The best and only solution to nip this problem from the bud is to cancel/revoke all private bus liciences and introduce govt buses where there is no competetion and rush to maintain timing etc.

    General public and passenger are mum and departments are sleeping that is why such type of accidents are happening on daily basis. General public should step into the roads to protest against the speeding heavy vehicles and all passengers should catch the driver in the bus itself while he was speeding bus. Then only we can reduce such type of accidents on daily basis. Passengers are always MUM. Jai ho mangalore

    These bus drivers will never learn from their mistakes. I have just been in magalore since 4 months, and been hearing about these accidents a lot. And Traffic Polices are there jus to fill their pockets for the day and go home, by asking DL,RC, Insurance, Emission etc. Please take action about the happening.. May his soul RIP

    There is no end to such accidents unless SPEED GOVERNERS are installed in EACH and EVERY vehicle which will limit the speed of the vehicle at a predetermined speed. Other than this there is no go.

    Life in mangalore has become very cheap, especially for these bloody bus drivers. They should be stonned to death to show them how it feels when you or your family is on the recieveing end. And even after so many cases invloving bus, no action has been taken by the traffic police or city police. This is utter nonsense. The private buses should be banned only then these goons who pay and get released easily will be taught a lesson.

    The MCC has to install speed breakers on this road, as the speed at which the vehicles ply on this road is unimaginable. I saw the guy lying face down in the front of the bus, with blood all over the road. It was clear that the bus driver was at fault, from the way, the bus was stopped. Why cant the govt do either of 2 things, either put speed breakers all over town, or at least install speed limit devices in the buses. This way precious lives could be saved.

    First of all Mangalore City Police could have to limit the speed in crowded areas, such as Hampankatta, by adding speed breakers, in front of 1. Palki Hotel, 2. Don Bosco Hall, 3. Mandovi Motors.
