New Delhi, Jan 10: Delhi Police revealed on Friday that the last 23 bomb threat emails sent to various schools in the national capital were traced back to a class 12 student. According to DCP South Ankit Chauhan, the student confessed to sending threat emails earlier as well.
This revelation follows recent disclosures where the police found that bomb threats targeting at least three schools in Delhi were sent by students from within those institutions. Following an investigation by the Delhi Police special cell, a police official mentioned that the threats were orchestrated by two siblings within the school who wanted the exams to be postponed. During counselling sessions, the students admitted that they drew inspiration from previous bomb threat incidents to carry out these actions.
Both students were later released after their parents were given stern warnings. Officials have reported similar cases in schools located in Rohini and Paschim Vihar, where students were found responsible for sending threatening emails.
The recent spate of bomb threats has disrupted school activities, with a notable incident in December last year where an email demanded a ransom of $100,000, threatening bombs to detonate "within 72 hours." This was followed by a series of incidents in December where schools faced similar threats: 44 schools on December 9, 30 schools on December 13, and 8 institutions on December 14, with one such email specifically mentioning the use of "bomb vests."
Since May, more than 50 bomb threat emails have targeted not only schools but also hospitals, airports, and airline companies across Delhi, creating widespread concern and fear.
