Mangalore, May 30: Konkani Prachara Sanchalana president Roy Castelino has been appointed member of Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy as per the order of the state government. Though Kasargod Chinna was elected as the president of the Academy last year, there were no members appointed. Now, with all the members being appointed, Konkani-speaking people feel that the work of the academy will take momentum.
Roy Castelino, though an entrepreneur, has great love and gratitude for the language and Konkani Prachara Sanchalana is functioning for the development of Konkani language. The Sanchalana has been helping needy students in their education for six years. Konkani learning has been encouraged through ‘Jagruthi Abhiyana’, free distribution of books, stipend for teachers, and through other programmes.
Another member appointed is Om Ganesh. He is an international magician and actor too. He has been active in cultural and literature field. He will be the member of the academy for 3 years.
Other appointed members are P Subhash Kamath, Udupi, Rajaram Nayak, Bantwal taluk, Mahesh R Nayak, Mangalore, Chandrakanth Kamath (Y Ganapathi Kamath), Bellary, Chidananda Bhandari, Uttara Karnataka, B S Kamath (Damodar Kamath), Shimoga, T A P Shenoy, Bangalore, Manjunath Rayasiddi, Yellapur, and Mahadeva Reddy Kuttikar, Karwar.
