Mangalore, May 26: Mangalore taluk panchayat former president Khalid Yusuf (70) died in a road mishap that occurred in the outskirts of the city here on Saturday May 26.
Khalid Yusuf was riding his Honda Activa two-wheeler on his way back from gram panchayat office in Adyar, and was nearing Adyarkatte.
It is said he stopped by the side of the highway as he saw a tanker coming from the opposite direction. After the tanker passed by him, he came back on to the highway. At that moment, a recklessly driven Maruti Swift car rammed into his scooter from behind.
The impact of the accident was such that the Khalid fell off his two-wheeler and was thrown on to the road. He was critically injurd on the head and soon breathed his last.
A case has been registered in Kankanady rural police station, based on a complaint by his relative Ahmed Iqbal.
Khalid Yusuf was the president of Mangalore taluk panchayat in the year 1995. He was a member of taluk panchayat for three terms. He had also served as the president of Kannur Juma Masjid for 26 years.
