New Delhi, Apr 30 (IANS): The Lok Sabha was adjourned till noon Monday over the vexed issue of carving out a separate Telangana state from Andhra Pradesh.
As soon as the house met at 11 a.m., the members of Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) came to the well of the house holding placards and shouting slogans, "We want Telangana" and "Jai Telangana".
Despite the repeated requests of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to raise the issue during zero hour, two TRS members sat near her podium, shouting slogans, even as question hour proceeded.
Amid the din, Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj appealed to the Lok Sabha speaker to suspend question hour for some time and ask Leader of the House Pranab Mukherjee to make a statement on the issue.
"I appeal to the government to inform the house about the status of Telangana. These members have been raising the voice of thousands of people agitating outside parliament," said Swaraj.
"The government promised to carve a separate state in 2009 and since then no action has been taken. We assure the government to bring a bill for creating a separate state and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will support the government in passing it," she said.
As the commotion continued, the Lok Sabha speaker adjourned the house till 12 noon.
Eight Congress MPs were suspended from the Lok Sabha by their party for disrupting the House over Telangana last week.
