Kasargod/Kochi, Mar 30: CBI special court in Kochi on Friday March 30 awarded life imprisonment for seven convicted for the murder of Perla youth Congress secretary Abdul Jabbar.

The court also directed that the total sum of fines be handed over to Jabbar’s family.
Police had arrested 14 in connection with the murder of whom five were acquitted for lack of evidence and two were freed after they turned approvers.
The court acquitted Abdul Aziz Paivalike Baliga, Ummer Farouq alias Farouq Munnoor, Kittu alias Radhakrishna Paivalike, Gopal alias Rajgopal Paivalike and P Shabbir Perla.
The prosecution proved that the guilty had plotted the murder and tried to destroy the evidence.
The political rivalry between Sudhakar Master and Jabbar resulted in the latter’s murder by killers hired by the former. The investigations revealed the significance of Jabbar’s last conversation with his friend while on the way to hospital and the history of telephone calls made by the accused.
Jabbar was slain by a group of men with lethal weapons who waylaid his car on the night of November 3, 2009 while he was on his way home with his friend. Badiyadka police initially conducted the investigations and were close to abandoning the case due to political pressure.
CBI investigations in the case were undertaken on the basis of an order from the High Court obtained by Jabbar’s father.
