Mangalore, Mar 27: In a dramatic case of theft, a gang barged into a house at Sunkadakatte near Bajpe here on Tuesday March 27 and made away with gold worth lacs of rupees.
What makes the incident dramatic is that the thieves first tied up a woman who was in the house and then went about their task.
The theft occured at the house of Saroja Salian, who was not at home at the time of the incident. Only her 25-year-old niece Geeta was at home.
The thieves gained entry into the house from the back door and tied up Geeta with a saree and gagged her. Geeta struggled hard against the men, but in vain. They then opened the cupboards in the house, ransacked the place and took away some 50 sovereigns of gold worth Rs 10 lac.
Meantime, Geeta managed to free herself but it was too late as the thieves fled by then. She, however, called the neighbours who in turn informed Saroja and the police.
Police told Daijiworld that there were four men, who spoke in Malayalam. They were not masked, but were strangers as Geeta could not recognise them. Luckily, they left her unharmed.
Bajpe police have registered a case and are investigating.
