Sharjah: Ashley Lobo Makes Entry into UAE U-16 Cricket Team

Sharjah, Mar 22: Ashley Lobo, a Mangalorean by origin and currently studying in eighth grade at Our Own English High School, here, has been selected for the under-16 UAE cricket team.
The 13-year-old played for the ACC U-16 Challenger Cup in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The team won the runners-up trophy in the tournament and qualified to play for the ACC U-16 Elite Cup which will be held in Malaysia.
Opening batsman Ashley Lobo and Nelukshan D’Silva of Desert Cubs Cricket Academy Sharjah laid claim to a world record after figuring in an unbeaten stand of 274 in just 20 overs at the Nissan Gulf Cup cricket tournament at the DPS grounds, held recently.
Ashley's 54-ball 101 was spiced with four sixes and 12 boundaries. He amassed 261 runs in five innings in this tournament. Ashley is also adjourned as 'Best Batsman of the tournament'. Ashley was also adjudged 'Player of the tournament' in the recently concluded 'Four Nation Cup' conducted by Young Talent Cricket Academy where he scored 190 runs in four matches.
Ashley also played for the under-16 cricket team of Our Own English High School. The team won the runners up in the inter-school cricket tournament conduted by Modern High School, Dubai.
Not just cricket, Ashley was also part of the under-16 table tennis team of Our Own English High School.
His younger brother Niel Lobo, studying in fifth grade is also a budding cricketer. Neil has won the best all-rounder in the recently concluded four-nation cup tournament where he was the captain for the UAE team.
