Mangalore: Police Seize 432 Litres of Illicit Liquor, Three Nabbed

Mangalore, Mar 21: The excise police arrested three persons on charges of smuggling liquor from Goa to Kerala at Alape-Padil here at 3.30 am on Wednesday March 21.
 
Police seized 432 litres of Goa-made liquor and also a Maruti Zen car, altogether worth about Rs 3 lac.

The arrested have been identified as 34-year-old Vishwanat alias Vasant from Kadar, Kasargod, 29-year-old Anil Kumar K Y from Mogral Puttur, Kasargod, and Manoj Kumar V N, Bedradka, Kasargod.
 
The operation was carried out on the orders of Mangalore division excise joint commissioner K C Haridas and Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner B V Hoovappa Gowda, by excise inspector M K Keshavamurti, assistant sub inspector B S Devarajappa, police personnel Ganesh Shetty, Pradeep Kumar, Manju C, Parashivamurti, Basavaraju, jeep driver Ganesh Gowda and Hariyappa.

    Good job by the excise police of Mangalore by nabbing the three smugglers of Illicit liquor from Goa. It is surprising that they could carry such a large amount of liquor in a small Maruti Zen car.I think these three guys must have done before and this time they were caught.

    Dont be so naive, how else will the politicians survive and make money, what will we do with all these babus, have you seen the stomachs of these cops, you have only seen half the picture there are another couple of bags hidden for them to sell or consume. How else will they survive. Grow up, we are Indians, we are like that only.

    Ms Michelle, your point is really great.I too agree with you.

    What happens if I fill 5 cans of 50 ltrs each of petrol in Manjeshwar ( Kerala ) and sell / use it in Mangalore ? Likewise people fill up their tanks 1 km before the Goa/Karwar border while driving to Mangalore. So as Michelle rightly points out, is this smuggling ? Can we be caught ?

    Or let us say, We have drunk goa alcohol before entering Karwar border.Can we be caught for that (imagining that we are travelling by bus)?

    Its funny that Indian made Branded liquor (presumed as purchased against a Bill) is smuggled within India. Some other country may find it funny and laugh at us. If someone drives down to Kasargod and fills a tank full of Petrol and returns to Karnataka isnt this too called smuggling. How many do this since petrol is cheaper in Kerala? Both are spirits legally purchased within India. Why then the differenciating. If the tax, excise and other levies are the same throughout India, no one will ever do this. We say India is ONE and Indians are ONE. Why then this difference within India between the States. Lets give a thought to it.

    Most of the visitors to GOA bring along a bottle or two by train if not for them , for friends or relatives , it is easy for all comment on this article showing the negative side , however these youths brought too many bottles along with them . There is no checking on trains from Goa and in Kerala , public need to stand in Queue to buy liqour through Govt out lets , when there are functions keralities tend to ship booze from Karnataka or Goa due to quality . In this case , Quantity was too huge hence cops said .. no way .

    The whole of India should have uniform policies and no restrictions on travel and transportation. What is this nonsense? One state there is beef and another state no beef. Same case with liquor also. In one state is legal and in another it is illegal. India is a democracy and a secular country. So why different policies in each and every state?
