Mangalore, Mar 20 : Not long ago the trio of Devdas Kapikad, comedian and character actor Navin D Padil and Aravind Bolar used to entertain Tulu theatre lovers with their acting prowess and high caliber performances. However, all that went missing for sometime as the trio went their separate ways much to the disenchantment of their countless fans who are not yet reconciled to that idea.
The fans who took a liking to this comedy trio were crestfallen when they were separated and were waiting impatiently for their joining hands to delight Tulu theatre lovers. In the meanwhile Padil and Bolar had teamed up with Vijaykumar Kodialbail to come out with a winner in Tulu film “Oriyardori Asal” last year and gave a new dimension to Tulu cinema. Devdas Kapikad also made his debut in the Kannada film industry two-three years ago.

However, those who missed the combined charms of Padil-Kapikad and Bolar will be happy to know that the trio will be back in action together and would delight the audience in a new Tulu film “Bolli”, the muhurtha of which will be held on March 28, 2012 at Siddhakatte. The film produced by Sudhir Kamath will be directed by well known Kannada film Director P H Vishwanath of “Panchama Veda” fame. The movie is based on the successful Tulu Play of Telikeda Bolli Devdas Kapikad’s “Gantethand” and has been adapted to the silver screen rechristened as “Bolli”.
Navin Padil had last worked with Devdas Kapikad almost 10 years ago in the Tulu play “Telikeda Barsolu”. Aravind Bolar too is working with Kapikad after a long gap and three are sure to give the audience another winner in “Bolli” apart from satiating their hunger of seeing them working together. Navin Padil is essaying the role of a comedian in this movie along with Aravind Bolar.
When contacted to know how it feels to be back to work with Kapikad after a long break Navin Padil said “it feels good to work together as we had perfect comedy timing in those plays in which we had worked together. But there was no bad blood between Kapikad and me and we never had any wrangling or serious fights which prevented us from working together. When Kapikad and producer Sudhir Kamath called and asked me whether I will be able to work in a movie I did not dither to give my consent. There is no reason why we should not work together”, Naveen Padil clarified.
This new movie is also the launch pad for Devdas Kapikad’s son Arjun Kapikad, who is also making his debut in the silver screen through this movie. Mumbai based models of Dakshina Kannada origin Ashritha Shetty will essay the role of the leading heroine opposite Arjun Kapikad. Another model Vaishali Shetty, also a model, will be the second lead heroine of the movie. Devdas Kapikad will also act in the play. Flamboyant music director Guru Kiran is the music director. Ravi Varma is the stunt director. There will be altogether 5 songs in the movie and Devdas Kapikad has written the lyrics for three of the five songs.
Interestingly, most of the artistes who had acted in the original Kannada play “Gantethand” will find a place in this Tulu movie. The shooting of the new film will be done in Siddakatte and in and around Mangalore. It is also interesting to note that this is the second play of Devadas Kapikad which has been made into a film. His first and super hit play “Bale Chaa Parka” was made into a Tulu film “Sathya Olundu” by Tulu cine actor Sadashiva Salian directed by well known director Arooru Pattabhi.
Needless to say the new movie will be eagerly awaited by the Tulu-speaking people of undivided Dakshina Kannada who have grown watching the plays of Devdas Kapikad.
Tulu cinema no doubt is buoyed by the success of “Oriyardori Asal” (OOA) and “Bolli” is sure to encompass all the elements that are needed to make it a successful movie. OOA laughed its way to the cash register as the movie was watched by all who could understand Tulu if not speak. As a play “Gantethand” was a huge success and one can only hope and wish “Bolli” will prove to be a sleek film with plenty of comedy to send the people into laugh riot. With the trio of Kapikad-Padil-Bolar coming together once again that is the least people look forward to.
