Mangalore: Gulf Dirt Track Riders 'Gear up' for National Championship

Mangalore, Mar 17: It was a thrilling moment as riders zoomed around on their rally bikes on the temporary dirt tracks prepared for the Gulf Dirt Track National Championship in Fisheries Ground, Yekkur here on Saturday March 17.
A practice and a qualifying round for the championship was held at the venue on Saturday. A large crowd gathered to watch the session despite the sweltering heat and the heavy dust of the mud track. A very large number of spectators is expected on the venue for the Championship to be held on Sunday March 18.
All arrangements have been made by the organizers to ensure grand success of the event. Riders and champions from various parts of the country have arrived to take part in the same, with a variety of motors bikes specially altered for the purpose.
A record 189 entries have been received for the first of the five rounds of the Championship, a round of FMSCI Championship 2012 for two-wheelers which is set this Sunday, will be flagged off at 10 am by city police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh at the Fisheries Collage ground, Kankanady.
The event, sponsored by Gulf Oil Corporation Limited and organized by Sportscraft-Mumbai in association with Mangalore Motor Sports Association, promises top class action.
Some of the best riders from all over India will be fighting it out in dust and heat for the honours and position on their roaring machines.
The riders will compete in 14 categories as under:
FOREIGN MOTORCYCLES CLASS - Group A up to 250cc – Class – 2 & 4 Stroke
INDIAN NOVICE CLASS - Group C Motorcycles above 130cc up to 165cc - 4 Stroke
PRIVATE EXPERT CLASS Group B Motorcycles up to 260cc - - 2 & 4 Stroke
KARNATAKA LOCAL CLASS – Group C Motorcycles up to 165cc – 4 Stroke
INDIAN EXPERT CLASS Group B Motorcycles up to 260cc - 2 & 4 Stroke
INDIAN NOVICE CLASS - Group C Motorcycles up to 130cc – 4 Stroke
OPEN EVENT Scooters up to 150cc – Group C – Class S-0 &S1 5
