Mangalore, Mar 17: "The absence of BJP corporators for election of standing committee chairpersons is a conspiracy to pave the way for superceding or dissolving the Mangalore city corporation(MCC) council," alleged Congress leader Lancelot Pinto on Saturday March 17.
Addressing a press meet at district congress office, he said that a notice informing the election process was served to all the corporators following the rules. But the BJP corporators have requested the council secretary to postpone the election and no one from BJP attended the election process, he added.
Selecting standing committee chairpersons is important where as finance committee chairperson should present the MCC budget for the year 2012-13 before March. Meanwhile, he said another notice will be served to the corporators fixing a date for selection of chairpersons for all the four standing committees. Presenting the budget, If the BJP corporators failed to attend the second meeting to be convened in 10 days, without a finance committee chairman would be difficult before March, he said.
Former Mayor Shashidhar Hegde said that the Mayor post has come to the mistake of BJP and its internal politics. "We only got benefited from the ignorance of BJP and have not snatched it," he said assuring all the support for the ruling in MCC as like an opposition party for the goodness of citizens of Mangalore. Citing the example of delay in presenting budget was also one among the reasons for super-seeding of Belgaum city corporation, he said BJP government would also play the same card.
BJP corporators game attributed by shame in loosing mayoral post in MCC would adversely affect on them, he said alleging that their inability proves in their conspiracy of dissolving the council. He suspected that the BJP corporators would continue their conspiracy and will cheat their voters who elected them for five years term.
