Udupi, Mar 13: "Stiff competition is being witnessed among Congress, BJP and JD(S) in the bypoll. But ultimately the result will depend on the voters' choice," said JD(S) supremo Deve Gowda.
He was addressing mediapersons at a press meet held at Hotel Kidiyoor here on Tuesday March 13.
"JD(S) gained more strength after popular politician U R Sabhapati joined the party recently. The bypoll will determine the prospects of both the state and union governments. In order to sustain democracy in the country, politics should be cleansed of its evils, which requires united strength," he said.
He further added, "The reservation to all classes had been given by JD(S) 18 years ago, thanks to which a woman from the fishing community became the TP president. The minority community has been given prominence in politics. Reservation was also awarded to Muslims in the state during the JD(S)-BJP coalition government."
He said that he had come to Udupi to strengthen the party and effectively challenge BJP and Congress, adding that he has no plans to form an understanding with BJP.
"JD(S) is a open book that has both failures and achievements. It has more achievements than failures. There is not much of a difference between BJP and Congress at the centre."
Deve Gowda solicited the voters of coastal district to cast their precious votes for JD(S) in the forthcoming Udupi – Chikmagalur Lok Sabha bypoll. The first Jayceeret founder president Manjula Vishnuprasad joined JD(S) on the occasion.
U R Sabhapati, Puttaraju, Putte Gowda, Ghulam Ahmed, Abdul Aziz, M B Sadashiv, David Simone and others were also present.
