Mangalore: Mediapersons Lauded, Honoured on Press Club Day

Mangalore, Mar 11: It was a rare occasion when journalists, reporters and photojournalists from across the city had some respite from their busy schedules and celebrated their special day.
Press Club Day, jointly organized by Mangalore Press Club, Dakshina Kannada Working Journalists' Union (DKWJU) and Patrika Bhavana Trust was celebrated at Urwa Church Hall, Lady Hill here on Sunday March 11.
Dr Harish Kumar, commissioner, Mangalore City Corporation, addressing the gathering of mediapersons and their families, said that media educates people and mediapersons have to be active round-the-clock.
"The recent tussle between lawyers and mediapersons was unfortunate," he said, "Both are inseparable pillars of the democracy, therefore, such incident should not take place in future." He also called upon the mediapersons to be fair and and transparent in the way they present news, as it has a direct impact on society.
M N Rajendra Kumar, president, SCDCC bank distributed the awards to mediapersons who had excelled in the field. Among those honoured was Daijiworld's ace photojournalist Dayanand Kukkaje, Ravi Posavanike of Times of India, Satish Ira of Udayavani, V U George of Mangalore Today and Sudhakar Yermal of Vijaya Karnataka.
P B Harish Rai, president, DKDWJU presided. K Anand Shetty, president, Mangalore press club, B Ravindra Shetty, president, Patrikabhavana Trust, Ramakrishna R, chief secretary, Shreenivas Nayak Indaje, chief secretary among others were present. Cultural programmes followed.
