Mangalore, Mar 7: The UK team met the commissioner of police Seemanth Kumar Singh, IPS recently. As a part of the Global School Partnership, a team from Pilton Bluecoat C of E Junior School, Devon, U K visited Lourdes Central School for a week. The Global School Partnership has been very active from the past four years and is funded by the British Council.
The senior IPS officer interacted with the guests and explained the working of the police department. He also showed a power point presentation wherein details of the many tasks undertaken by the police were shown. He ascertained that unlike olden days, the present focus is on petty crimes, rehabilitation of victims, and empowerment of women, health issues, juvenile centres and the like. Police are friendly people, just like us and they too take part in blood donations, sports and games and training programmes.
The UK visitors said that they have a PSPO (Public School Police Officer) who visits the school and oversees how things go on. On questioning about the students interest to join the police force, one of the UK students Chole Weeks expressed her desire to be a police officer.
Singh also took the team on a tour around his office. Fr Ferdinand Gonsalves, principal, Joy Rai, vice Principal, Violet D’Souza, Shaila Mascarenhas and Henry Mascarenhas, teachers accompanied the guests to the commissionerate.
Subashchandra, ACP, CCRB, Kiran, PI (East) and other police officers were also present for the session.
