Mangalore, Mar 7: German physicist, Hans Peer Durr, who has done wonderful work in quantum physics, elementary particles, gravitation, epistemology and philosophy, and who advocates responsible scientific and energy policies, will be visiting the city and delivering addresses at different places. Hans happens to be the former dean of Max Planck Institute of Physics. This was stated by former vice chancellor of Manipal University, Dr B M Hegde, at a press conference held here on Tuesday March 6.
The professor will be speaking at Mijar Shobhavana of Alva’s Foundation Moodbidri at 5 pm on March 11, NITK Suratkal the next day, and at the auditorium of Corporation Banks’ head office here on March 13, Hegde informed.
“Hans had got his PhD as a student of Edward Teller, father of hydrogen bombs, when studying in Berkeley University, USA. After realizing that nuclear bombs can never bring peace in the universe, he found ways to attain peace. He had worked as the colleague of Albert Einstein and has headed Max Planck for 30 years, and continues to be emeritus president of this institute. He has won the German award that is equivalent of Bharat Ratna, Right Lively Award that is equal to Nobel in 1987, Peace Award in 1995, and several more international awards,” he explained.
Finance officer of Journal of the Science of Healing Outcomes, Jayaram Shetty, was present at the press conference.
