Udupi, Mar 6: On the occasion of college day of MGM College here, Muddana Sahityotsava and V M Inamdar Critic’s Award were organized at the college premises on Tuesday March 6.
The V M Inamdar Award for best critic was handed over by well-known litterateur, Na Mogasale, to Dr Ashadevi M S, on this occasion.
Delivering special address on the occasion, Mogasale said that the question as to whether the art of authoring genuine poems, and the habit of upholding life values, are still alive, has been haunting people.
“The central government spends crores of rupees under a scheme aimed at providing encouragement to classical languages. But we lack the interest to make use of this provision. We are totally overlooking the art of poetry. There should be counselling even for literature. Knowledge-based education alone can provide an impetus to poetic mindset,” he observed.
Mogasale said that many a time, the values which we envisage as sublime, have not remained so, and in many cases, what we presume as truth is not so. “There are instance in which truth is not given in the syllabus and texts. There is a need to invoke humanity into us. We should sink differences over caste, religion, and god. Only then we can undertake a sincere search for genuine human beings,” he felt.
MGM College principal, Dr P V Gowda, presided over the function. Head of Kannada department of the college, Hoskere Shivaswamy, welcomed. Dr Putti Vasant Kumar compered the programme.
