Panaji, Mar 6 (IANS): Goa's ruling Congress was trailing with two seats as opposed to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that was leading in nine seats as vote counting got under way Tuesday. After an hour of counting, both parties had bagged one seat each in the 40-member assembly.
Congress' Mauvin Godinho won the Dabolim seat by a margin of around 1,000 votes, while Milind Naik of the BJP bagged the Mormugao seat with a 2,000 plus margin.
The United Goans Democratic Party (UGDP) and the Goa Vikas party (GVP) were leading in two seats, while Independent candidates were ahead in one seat.
Goa voted March 3 for a 40-member assembly.
