Kasargod, Apr 14: In connection with the murder of an auto-rickshaw driver identified as Muhammad Sharif, a native of Mulky, whose body was found dumped in a well near Manjeshwar, the local police have reportedly detained two individuals for questioning. It is learnt that the suspects are residents of Mangaluru.
Sharif’s body was discovered in a well located in Kunjattur Padu, near Manjeshwar. Initial investigations revealed that three persons had hired his auto rickshaw from Mangaluru and travelled with him.

CCTV footage obtained from Talapady showed Sharif’s rickshaw heading towards Manjeshwar around 12 midnight on Wednesday. Based on this and other leads, the police initiated a focused investigation which led to the detention of two suspects.
On Thursday night, Sharif’s body was recovered from the well. Local residents had grown suspicious upon noticing an abandoned auto rickshaw in a deserted area. Upon inspection, they found the body in the nearby well.
A post-mortem examination confirmed that it was a case of murder. Multiple stab injuries were found on the head, arms, and other parts of the body, confirming foul play.
Further investigation is ongoing.
