Beltangady, Apr 14: A head-on collision between two cars occurred on Sunday near Kedihishnuvina, close to the Kombinadka school on the Mundaje-Dharmasthala stretch of the Didupe-Paicharu state highway. The accident has once again drawn attention to the hazardous conditions along this vital road.

The incident took place when a car travelling from Dharmasthala towards Mundaje reportedly veered slightly and hit the edge of a roadside drain before crashing into an oncoming vehicle. Miraculously, all passengers in both cars escaped without injuries.

Eyewitnesses noted that the situation could have turned tragic had the car not gotten stuck near the drain. Just below lies a deep stream, into which the vehicle could have plunged, potentially leading to serious casualties.

Local residents have long expressed concern over this highway, which has nearly six narrow bridges that severely restrict vehicle movement. These choke points are said to be a frequent cause of accidents, particularly when visibility is low or traffic is heavy.

People in the region are now urging the authorities to widen the narrow sections and implement proper safety measures to prevent further mishaps on this busy route.
